Environmental Protection Area – Southern Right Whale APA

The creation of the Right Whale Protection Area conservation unit aims to protect the right whale; organise and guarantee the rational use of the region's natural resources; organise tourist and recreational use, research activities and local boat and aircraft traffic. As the southern coast of Santa Catarina is one of the world's main sanctuaries for right whales, which come here from July to December to give birth and nurse their young, the right whale APA is essential (fundamental) for their protection, and a right to reproduce in a sustainable use territory, and is therefore a vulnerable area.
