Since 2011, Garopaba has held the World Beach Clean-Up Day (DMLP - Dia Mundial de Limpeza de Praias), an initiative of the NGO AMA (Associação Amigos do Meio Ambiente para Ecologia, o Turismo e o Desenvolvimento Sustentável) and supported by various partners and collaborators, including the Town Hall, municipal schools, environmentalist associations, surfers and local environmentalists, as well as the Ilha Terceira Scouts group. Every year since then, various people, friends and organisations have come together to carry out the highly-anticipated cleanup on the beaches, coasts and lagoons.
