‘Where whales are born’ is a qualitative research project to emphasise the importance of preserving the nursery. Interviews were organised to address the interaction between whales and society, and the challenges related to the migration and presence of whales. In April 2024, this work was presented on the 35th International Conference on Marine Mammals and Human Activities, organised by the European Cetacean Society in Catania, Italy.
This work is part of the Baleia Austral (Southern Right Whale) project, which is first and foremost an education project that recognises the educational and cultural relevance of the whales due to their relationship with the community, and aims to bring to light this issue, which is closely linked to the history and culture of the people living along the coast of Santa Catarina. As a way of bringing this fundamental knowledge for the preservation of our planet to as many people as possible, a documentary film is being made.
