Scientific whale watching and tourism with the Salvador Whales Project technical team.
Salvador has become part of the whale-watching tourism route since the launch of the Salvador Whales Project (Projeto Baleias Soteropolitanas, in Portuguese). The whale watching is carried out in a sustainable manner, without getting too close to the whales, in accordance with IBAMA Resolution 117/96. Fishermen from the Itapuã fishing community earn extra income through community-based tourism.
