The “Barriendo Mares” (Sweeping the Seas) marine cleanup campaign, held October 6th in Dénia, successfully removed 317 kilograms of waste from the coastline within the Marine Reserve of Cabo de San Antonio. A total of 311 participants joined the initiative, including 48 divers responsible for underwater cleanup. Additionally, 9 boats helped collect floating waste, while other volunteers walked along the coastline, removing debris from the shore. The cleanup extended from Les Marines to the end of Les Rotes.
The collected waste included organic and mixed waste (95 kg), iron (81 kg), wood (52 kg), plastic (48 kg), glass (22 kg), and paper/cardboard (19 kg). The event was made possible through the collaboration of local businesses and organizations, including Mundo Marino, Vigar, Industrias Aura, Bottles Recycling, Fundación Baleària, Pavasal, Marina El Portet, and the Cofradía de Pescadores de Dénia, which provided the facilities for the activity.
This initiative not only demonstrates the community’s commitment to protecting the marine environment but also aligns perfectly with the goals of the Whale Heritage Area, by promoting environmental sustainability and the conservation of marine biodiversity.
